ELGE Shell & Coil Heat Exchangers
Type MD
At ELGE we have constructed a series of heat exchangers with a coil made of profiled, spiral wound copper tubes, with optimum designs to suit operating conditions inherent to subscriber stations in district and central heating systems.
DESCRIPTION ELGE Shell & Coil Heat Exchangers are designed for different environments such as steam to water, water-water and glycol compounds. They are designed according to the counter flow principle for best thermal properties, at either full load or part load. The heating surface is made of profiled, spiral wound copper tubes in layers where the special profile of the tubes makes the external flow area. The spiral wound coil makes the heat exchangers very resistant to strains due to temperature and pressure fluctuations. The connecting ends of the copper tubes are modeled for simple and safe brazing. The heat exchanger is very compact thanks to optimal design of the pressure vessel. The small outside dimensions and the low total weight facilitate the handling of the heat exchangers.

The heat exchangers have pressure vessel casing and mounting made of copper. ELGE Shell and Coil Heat Exchangers have fiberglass insulation. This has a long life span and is not affected by, for example, welding. The insulation can be easily removed to provide access for inspection of the pressure vessel. The standard design of is for wall mounting, but floor stand can also be delivered at special order. ELGE Shell and Coil Heat Exchangers type MD have been type inspected and approved by SAQ Inspection Ltd. with regard to welding/brazing and strength.
