Single Package Unit
ELGE’s SPU Steam
Water Heater comes completely assembled and ready for installation. Each
package is designed around an ELGE Shell and Coil heat exchanger and
includes
· Self-Actuated
or Pneumatic Temperature Regulating Valve
· Temperature
Actuator (105 deg - 225 deg)
· Safety
Temperature limiter (self actuated valve)
· Float
and Thermostatic Steam Trap
· Temperature/Pressure
Relief Valve
· Pressure
and Temperature Gauges
· Thermal
Insulation Around the Shell
· Stainless
Steel Enclosure
· Y-strainer
before F&T trap
Coil Design is Reliable and Self-Cleaning
ELGE’s coil design eliminates stress at the connection points due to
expansion and contraction. In addition, this movement causes the coil to
be self-cleaning. Scale is automatically removed and can be easily
flushed from the system through the flush valve on the bottom of the
Steam Water Heater.
Efficient and Economical
ELGE’s Steam Water Heater is efficient in both space and performance.
Its vertical design requires less than 4 square feet. ELGE’s use of
proven components provides a reliable yet economical package
Accurate Temperature Control
ELGE’s Steam Water Heater may be specified with either self-actuated or
pneumatic control valves. The state-of-the-art controls monitor water
temperatures and modulate the steam flow to maintain a preset water
temperature to +/- 4 deg F.

ELGE Technology
ELGE is the world leader in Shell and Coil heat exchanger technology.
Founded in 1873, ELGE has focused since 1949 on the development and use
of heat exchangers to supply both hot water and space heating in
district heating and cooling systems.
ELGE has been manufacturing heat exchangers and prefabricated packaged
systems throughout the U.S. and Canada since 1985. In 2002 ELGE was
moved to Long Island, NY and is now manufactured by BA HERCS,
Corporation.
Proven Design
ELGE’s Single Package Unit (SPU) is a vertical shell and coil,
counter/cross flow heat exchanger designed for sub cooling the steam
condensate. A steam trap is supplied for when the system is operating
at partial capacity. With either self-actuating or pneumatic control,
this design will maintain a supply of hot water at +/-4 deg F under
normal operating conditions.
These packages are able to supply hot water for demands from 3 to 80
gallons per minute per unit.
There are over 10,000 ELGE Packaged Water Heaters throughout the world.
Over 90% of ELGE Heat Exchangers that are 15 years old are
still in operation.
Design Benefits
ELGE Shell and Coil heat exchangers have:
· Up
to 3000 feet of copper in the coil
· Water
in tubes to minimize deposits/overheating
· Steam
in shell to eliminate damage to coil from hammer, high velocity erosion,
or shock
· A
spring shape coil to minimize expansion and contraction stresses
· A
coil which is self-cleaning as it moves
ELGE SPU Steam Water Heaters are:
· Easy
to select
· Compact
and simple in design
· Low
maintenance and require
NO
GASKETS
· reliable
Eliminates Storage Tank Hazards
Expensive, spacious storage tanks can be eliminated or their size
minimized by using an instantaneous ELGE Steam Water Heater. Storage
tanks are a breeding ground for corrosion-causing bacteria and hazardous
bacteria such as legionella, etc. Stratified tanks can supply the ideal
breeding temperature for any type of water borne bacteria.

Installation Conditions
· Using
the lowest possible supply temperature will reduce fouling and
maintenance
· circulating
pump is required on the
domestic water loop
· System
must be installed upright
· Condensation
return must be drained to atmospheric pressure
· Strainer

Normal Maintenance
· Flush
strainers and coil drain valve on a
regular basis—back flush periodically
· Monitor
